Mixed Media Art

Lee Montessori Mixed-Media Art Club

Students in the Mixed-Media Art Club at Lee Montessori will have the opportunity to create their own artwork from a wide variety of materials to express themselves in new and exciting ways. The kids will create their own sculptures, collages, and other projects individually and in groups during the six-week session to stimulate their creativity, build confidence, and foster team building and social skills.

I am a mixed-media artist with more than 15 years of experience using found objects and recycled materials to create unusual artwork that blends elements of painting, sculpture, and assemblage. My artwork has been shown in many juried exhibitions, galleries, and alternative venues in the D.C. area. I am the dad of Soren (Mr. Isaza’s class) and Ewan (Ms. D’Cruz’s class) who both love their school. I have taught art classes in public schools and after-school programs for elementary, middle, and high-school students through Project Create, a nonprofit organization that provides free art classes to children from low-income areas in D.C.  I also have completed intensive training with the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Artful Connections program to teach interactive art appreciation classes by live videoconferences to students and seniors across the country.

The Lee class is tailored to a small group of six to ten kids from kindergarten through 3rd grade. Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 4-5 pm from May 10 to June 14. The total cost for the six-week session is $75 with a 50 percent discount to children who receive free/reduced cost lunch. Payment may be made by check to Brendan Smith left at the front desk or by Paypal to brendanlsmith@hotmail.com using the Friends and Family option. Thanks and I hope to see your child in class!
