Mixed Media Art

Lee Montessori Mixed-Media Art Club

Students in the Mixed-Media Art Club at Lee Montessori will have the opportunity to create their own artwork from a wide variety of materials to express themselves in new and exciting ways. The kids will create their own sculpture, collage, and other projects individually and in groups to stimulate their creativity, build confidence, and foster team building and social skills.

I am a mixed-media artist with more than 15 years of experience using found objects and recycled materials in unusual artwork that blends elements of painting, sculpture, and assemblage. My artwork has been shown in many juried exhibitions, galleries, and alternative venues in the D.C. area. I am the dad of Soren (Mr. Isaza’s class) and Ewan (Ms. D’Cruz’s class) who both love their school. I have taught art classes in public schools and after-school programs through Project Create, a nonprofit organization that provides free art classes to children from low-income areas in D.C.  I also have completed intensive training at the Smithsonian American Art Museum to lead live art appreciation videoconferences with students and seniors across the country through the museum’s Artful Connections program.

The club is tailored to a small group of 8 to 12 kids ranging from kindergarten through 4th grade. Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 4:15-5:15 pm starting on Sept. 20. The total cost for the 10-week session is $125 which includes all art supplies, and children can take their artwork home with them. There is a 50 percent discount for children who receive free/reduced cost lunch. Parents can register here by Sept. 15. Payment may be made by check to Brendan Smith left at the front desk or by Paypal to brendanlsmith@hotmail.com using the Friends and Family option. Thanks for your interest, and I hope to see your child in class!
